Resolve Pregnancy-Related Incontinence
A woman's body goes through many changes during
pregnancy. The relationships between your bladder, uterus, and
vagina before pregnancy are altered when the fetus begins to
develop. With the baby growing, pushing, and shifting everyday,
the pelvic muscles are stretched and the pelvic organs lose
their shape. This added pressure may cause bladder control
problems (stress incontinence, urge incontinence or mixed
incontinence).
On average, 67% of women experience stress incontinence during pregnancy. The chance and severity of risk depends on the size of the child, number of previous deliveries, as well as the condition of the pelvic floor muscles.
Studies have shown that the chance of experiencing incontinence increases after each vaginal delivery:
-37% chance of incontinence after the 1st delivery
-57% chance of incontinence after the 2nd delivery
-73% chance of incontinence after the 3rd delivery
